More dyed Wool! :-)

So I am ready to make a nice wool cover with this yarn! And to show that I can recreate the results of my kool-aid and food color dyeing experiment a while back: here are a few pictures...

It has been a while...

I have been so busy with our garden and getting the plants in that I have had no time to pursue my diapering passion.

Today I finally got around to cutting out another Tighty White Hipster diaper. I made it with the same materials as mentioned in my previous post and had a harder time of it. It is a size medium so it fits my little guy really well, but it was just really hard negotiating the stretchy fabric this time around. For now, I am thinking this is not the ideal way for me to make my prefolds into fitteds. It is just so time consuming, but the end result is a cosy and nice-looking diaper, so it is a shame.

In the meantime, I have set up a little online shop on hyena cart called Cozy Dozy. I have nothing to sell as of yet, but am currently trying to gather testers for a little hat that I created.

I also have that knitted wrap idea that I am going to get into more now that I have a bit more time on my hands.

Using the expensive stuff! YAY!

Well before finding the rash on my son's belly, I had pretty much decided that I liked fitted diapers with some kind of a wool cover (longies, shorties, wool soaker, whatever). So I got to looking at a few patterns and making my own pattern. I wasn't too satisfied with what I created, but maybe I am just too critical of my own work! :D I found a link to the free Tighty Wighty Diaper pattern and tried it out on scrap fabrics. Wow, what I nice fit! I love it! So then I got brave enough to cut into my organic bamboo velour and cute interlock cotton knit from Joann's and came up with a great diaper. It is so soft and cozy!!! I cut up a prefold for the soaker pad, I may do a tutorial on that soon. Too bad it is way too big! I didn't want to make something my son would grow out of really fast so I did the next size up. Maybe I will donate it to my sis, who has a bigger baby than I do! ;-)

Bad news!

Well after wearing the longies for a whole day, my son got a little rash on his tummy. I assume it is from the wool rubbing on his bare skin, I don't think it is because he is allergic. My husband hates wool, so this is a good argument for him. I don't know what I am going to do now... He is slowly growing out of medium-sized prowrap covers, and I really don't feel like buying some more covers. I would rather sew them. I just don't know what materials I am going to use... PUL? Fleece? Nylon?

Ideally I wouldn't want this material to be touching his skin. So I would have to make a hidden layer of the water resistant fabric. But if you want to avoid wicking from the inner fabric to the outer-most fabric this is really a difficult task to accomplish from the sewing aspect.

I will figure something out. :)
